Expense Spreadsheet

Here are our expenses for May and June. I'll be maintaining three months of expenses so we can compare them and make sure that we're keeping everything in check.

1st visit - nice blog. One thing that jumped out at me was the food expenses -- ouch!! It really is a huge cost for three people (if I am reading your situation correctly). I feed 8 on about that amount (organics and teen boys raise my costs). Is there any way to reduce there?

Are you talking about both the groceries and lunches/dinners? I agree that they are all too high. One thing to note is that our groceries include diapers, wipes, shampoos, etc. But I think you're right. I'm sure there are lots of ways to reduce our groceries expenses. Typically we spend $160+ each week on our main grocery order. And then we will buy things here and there on top.

As for our lunches/dinners, we definitely need to reduce costs there. Both my husband and I work full-time and both have a tendency to buy our lunches more than necessary. We have been trying to reduce that but need to get better at it.

Thanks for your input. Do you have any suggestions for cost cutting?

I like you budget. It seems to cover most of the common neccesities. I also noticed that your groceries are kind of high. I have a household of 5, (two adults and three teens) and our grocery budget runs around $500 per month, but with an infant I definitely understand why it is high.

Good Luck

I like your budget too--but I agree it is high for food--I have 4 children 12 and under--my youngest is on formula and in diapers--ours is closer 250-275 every 2 weeks--He is drinking more formula than before so that is where it fluctuates and mine includes toiletries--try setting up a price book--surf for info--then you will know you are getting the best deals. I use coupons too--check out couponmom.com for a free ebook on suggestions--Tightwad Gazette books have good tips on pantry set ups and freezer usage--even for working moms :) good luck!
